Get huge bang for your buck using these wall paint design ideas with tape. These tutorials use paint and painter’s tape to create gorgeous patterns on your walls and furniture that you can do yourself and will leave guests in awe!
My mind works in mysterious ways. It thinks in shapes and patterns and then says, “Can I paint that pattern on the wall with painting tape?“
More than once, I have jumped up from the sofa and yelled for Grunt Labor to pause the television show so I can take a picture of some pattern/door/wall/what-the-freak-ever that I’ve seen and am sure I can replicate with paint and FrogTape. I’m not even kidding. I’m a freak. #freakflagflyer
I have found patterns to replicate from doors on Scandal, wall art from Vinyl and floors from How to Get Away with Murder.
I’m not right. But if it’s wrong, I don’t want to be right.
I haven’t tried out all my ideas just yet, but here are my favorite wall painting ideas and painting designs that I’m convinced anyone can make because if I can do it, anyone damn well can. You just need painter’s tape, paint and in some cases, a ruler (but not all, because I’m terrible at measuring).

I’ve included both wall designs with tape that I’ve created and tape and paint designs I’ve done on furniture. Both could be used on any surface of your choosing!
Chic Diamond Patterned Black and White Closet Doors
Painting Closet Doors with a Pattern
The closet doors in the office at our 70’s Landing Pad have become a fast favorite of mine. I love, love, love this paint design. In fact, I did a very similar version of it in our master bedroom…
Diamond Feature Wall
This wall steals the show in our master bedroom. I love the drama it adds to the space, while also lending a vintage vibe.
Washed Out Stripes Wall
Guess how much this bathroom wall cost me. Seriously, go on and guess.
A roll of painter’s tape and a sample pot of paint! That’s right! And it was easy too!
Cane Inspired Wall Paint Design
Cane Inspired Accent Wall for $25 or Less
If bright green isn’t your thing, you can easily switch out that hue for another one of your liking. This paint technique is cane inspired and I only needed a quart of paint for it.
Black and White Gallery Wall
Who knew dark colors could be so chic? Here’s another favorite. This one is such a simple wall painting idea. Essentially all I did was create a frame on my wall to showcase the art. Notice how that TV just fades away too?
Confetti Painter’s Tape Design
If you don’t want to worry about measuring a thing and want a dose of fun, this painter’s tape design is for you. I call it the confetti wall.
Criss-Cross Wall Paint Design
The criss-cross accent wall was one of the first bigger wall art with tape and paint projects I did. In all honesty, I was shocked when it actually turned out like I envisioned it in my head.
Plaid Pattern Painter’s Tape Design
Don’t be scared – this plaid painted table is one of the easiest painting designs around. You need a ruler – but you won’t use it the way you think you will…
Half and Half Wall Paint Designs
The guest room room is still one of my favorite spaces we’ve made over. The half-black half-white walls are easy to pull off.
Modern Design Flower Pots
The modern paint designs on these planter pots can be replicated on anything you wish.
Triangle Paint Design
Easy Painted Triangles
Another project from the guest room, this vintage laundry hamper makeover got a dose of upside-down triangles – another really simple painting idea using painter’s tape.
Painted and Striped Rug
Slowly, but surely we are getting closer to summer. This painted astroturf rug is great for your porch or patio and helps to add a pop of color.

The Black & White Gallery Wall is nothing short of genius. The others are very cool too…but I’m all gaga over the gallery wall!! In all the stalking I’ve done through your posts, can’t believe I hadn’t seen that! 🙂 Must try before I age out of doing such things!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
You hadn’t seen that one, Pam!! It’s one of my favorite too! I had never really intended to make the TV disappear into the wall, but I’m so glad it worked out that way!

I’ve just found this article and I’m literally doing the half black half white walls on Monday!! Getting a painter though and my husband has no faith in my skills haha! Question – did you just use a pure black and pure white? Sounds stupid I know but there are so many variations of white, I wasn’t sure if a softer white would look better or to just go for it with the whitest and brightest??
Jenna says
I used a true black for the walls and a softer white – one that was just a little creamy!

My comment is not related to the main topic though. I saw a transparent chair in one of the pictures. Are they really durable?
