DIY Wall Decor with a Gift Bag

Guys, this may be one of my favorite Fifteen on Friday projects ever.

Ok well, its right up there with the electrical tape lampshade, duck tape curtains, and lucite trays anyway.

As you know, I am a huge fan of making my own DIY wall decor. I made my own prints with PicMonkey for my master bedroom, used the sassy printables on the sequined coat hangers, and  made my own silhouette art.

This DIY modern art was by far one of the easiest home decor items I have ever created and I think it looks fab.

And did I mention I made it with a gift bag?

Here’s what happened:

On one of my few  and precious kid-free trips to Target, I meandered through every inch of the store – very dangerous indeed. Target always has great patterned wrapping paper, so I was in the gift wrapping aisle and spotted this gift bag.

That’s a terrible picture because I have terrible lighting in my craft room. Anyway, I was really drawn to all those great colors and the pattern. I had no clue what I would do with this gift bag, but I snatched it up and halfway home it dawned on me that I would make some DIY wall decor.

If you noticed in my entryway makeover, I took down the monogram photo art. The colors just didn’t work in that space anymore, so luckily I had an empty frame just waiting for this bad boy. The plain white mat needed a little jazzing up though. Gold duck tape craft anyone?

I started by using the tried and true eyeball method and put a strip of duck tape across the middle of the mat. Then, I used a strip of duck tape to measure between the other strips like so:

I cut the gift bag down to size, stuck it in the frame and called it a masterpiece.

Or at least my masterpiece.

Every Target trip must now include a trip down the gift wrap aisle.

So glad you did this. I had a baby shower on saturday and a friend gave me the most adorable bag that totally matches my nursery decor, and I thought to myself – would it be totally lame if I framed this?! NO! Thank you for giving me the extra inspiration to go ahead and do it! :o)
