Master Bedroom Mini-Makeover

So, remember a few weeks back when I created this whole master bedroom inspiration board?

Remember how we were looking at building on a new master suite?

Exactly one day after that post published, we met with a contractor. We walked him around the house, showed him what we wanted to do, and then he gave us a heartfelt smile and said, “It won’t work. I’ve never seen a house more stuck than yours.”

Seriously?

Yes. I kid you not.

Now, we really don’t need a new master suite. We really don’t need anymore space at all, though it would be nice. And honestly, we could live in less than we have and we are are truly blessed to have what we do have.

And that was a lot of “haves” in the last sentence.

But, I figured if I’m not going to get a new master suite, I’m at least going to give the current one a mini-makeover. And what better time to show you that master bedroom makeover and share with you my master bedroom ideas than on the last round of What’s Your Style.

Master Bedroom Ideas for a Mini-Makeover

If you have been with me for a while, you are sitting there saying, “This chick is senile. She just did a makeover on her bedroom last April. It hasn’t even been a year.”

Well, yes, I am senile. That’s already been covered in multiple posts on this blog and I fully embrace my senile-ness.

But, if you remember, I was never really happy with that wall color. I had whipped it up on the walls without really thinking about it during the two month renovation on the foreclosure. No more than three months after I painted it, I was regretting the color, but I was all painted out. The thought of more painting made me reach for a beer.

Then, in November I got that HomeRight PaintStick EZ-Twist and painted my entire living room, dining room, kitchen and hallway in one evening. If it was going to be that easy, I might as well paint my master bedroom too.

And then one thing lead to another and before you knew it I had freshly painted walls, new bedding, new lamps, and had switched up some accessories – all easy master bedroom ideas for a mini-makeover.

And most importantly, I have a space I am now crazy about.

And the funniest thing? This master bedroom doesn’t have a smidge of rustic-ness in it like the rest of my house. My Vintage-Modern-Rustic style that can easily be spotted in my living room and kitchen, isn’t so apparent in my bedroom. In fact, I’m not quite sure what to call the style of this new master bedroom yet. There are definitely some modern touches and I have lots of family heirloom furniture in here, but I’m not sure they qualify as “vintage” or “antique” or anything at all.

But guess what?

That’s ok.

Your home doesn’t have to be the same style throughout the entire space.

Master Bedroom Ideas {A Mini-Makeover} via RainonaTinRoof.com #masterbedroom #bedroom #makeover #homedecor #interiordesign

Your home should be whatever you love.

And I love my master bedroom.

And love is the one thing that should be at the center of all our styles.

For now, its a Modern – Chic – Traditional  Master Bedroom.

What do you think? What’s your bedroom style?

I totally feel for you with the contractor thing, our house is stuck with a few things that our contractor said “no can do” on. Bummer, but working with what you have is always a fun challenge too. Your room is beautiful! I like the subtle mix of colors, it’s eclectic without being overpowering. It’s a lovely room!

Yep, it does suck that it didn’t work out, but my motto is if it doesn’t happen, it wasn’t meant to be. I did have fun re-vamping this room and love how it looks now!

Love it. I have the same statue guy, just mine is a faux marble color. Is it me or does he kind of look like he is making duck lips? 🙂

The best part of that bedroom is the Old Money, New South book in one of the photos.

    🙂

It looks awesome, friend! I love the color of the walls and the bedding. I love having dark walls in a bedroom. I’m wishing I’d gone even darker in mine.

    Great job!

I love the colour of the walls. The bedroom looks much cosier. I’m currently renting but in my real home, to which I will return in a few years’ time, my walls are a similar colour. Love it!

A few weeks ago my main bedroom looked like this …

But, now that autumn has hit Australia, it has a light quilt on the bed, soon to be upgraded to another layer and then a doona. I’m a bit senile too so it seems.

Keep being senile. Life is boring if you’re not!

I’m trying to find out the dimensions on the headboard. Would you be willing to share this? I would love to do a set of these for my daughters.

Hi Ken! I think you may have asked me this on Hometalk too and I am so sorry for just now getting to it! I have also answered it on Hometalk as well. I didn’t make the headboard. I purchased it from Sears a few years back. It is a queen size. The main part is 70 inches wide and the highest it comes up is about 56 inches. The “wings” on the side are 8 1/2 inches wide at the widest point and come up about 54 inches. Hope that helps!

I think my style changes from room-to-room as well. But as long as it makes me happy, I don’t need to put a label on it. The pops of coral on your new bedding are fantastic! I love how it contrasts with your dark walls!

Hi, I’m over from Savvy Southern Style and saw the wall color from the gallery wall and was hooked. I love that color. I am in the process of making my master bedroom into a space I love too. It’s been over 10 years and I’m thinking it’s about time I make it into a space I love. Your re-do looks great. I’m going to have to hunt around and find out your wall color!

I love that color too, Melanie! Its on my Master Bedroom Mini Makeover post, but if you can’t find it, its Web Gray by Sherwin Williams. However, I had Home Depot mix it in Behr paint to save $$$

I love your new look in the master bedroom! I was looking through the pics and telling my mom how much I love your blog when I suddenly reailized your bedroom walls are painted a dark grey…which is what I just did on our master bedroom walls last month! I love it! 🙂 Your mini-makeover looks great! And I honestly think you can do mini-makeovers on any room as much as you want to because it’s always fun seeing the new looks you put together.

I feel a tad ‘stalker-ish’ leaving yet another comment today, but just had to say that I’m enjoying all your makeover and decorating ideas. Since I’m not the most creative person, it’s helpful learning how you put together the different looks. I especially like your bedroom and think the colors make it look very cozy and comfortable. Thanks so much for sharing.
