My heart is already full and there are still five more days left until Christmas. This past weekend, all of the boys were back in town and we had our yearly Christmas gathering. Every year, we get each of them something Polo (because you can never go wrong with Polo for teenage boys), and this…
During my last Keepin’ It Real Home Tour, someone couldn’t believe that my family and I were actually living in our home given the condition it was in – they even said our house and yard should be condemned. Now, I know there was a toilet in the yard during that tour, but really, that’s grounds…
Halloween is my favorite holiday. Christmas is a close second, but there is no other holiday that gets me more giddy than Halloween. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been mesmerized with ghost stories and witches. There was no other little elementary school girl more excited than me when the librarian did her…
This post is sponsored by Blue Apron. I never cook on Sundays. I know that being a southern woman I am supposed to cook a big meal every Sunday afternoon and have everybody and their mama over for dinner, but I don’t. I’m sure that some of the great southern women who have went before…
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Regions Bank, however all opinions and proclaiming my belief of renovating for you are 100% mine. When Grunt Labor and I realized that the new construction home wasn’t for us, we put it on the market and started house hunting. We were pretty open when it came to houses – we…
We have hit crunch time. We visit Home Depot and/or Lowe’s a minimum of every other day, some weeks every single day and some days multiple times a day. I walked in on Friday to get more black paint and the paint guy didn’t even need to know the name of the paint. “Limousine Leather, right?”…
I don’t like heights. Have I told you that before? Well, I don’t like heights. I also don’t like bridges too much either, which I guess kind of goes along with the heights issue. I’m good if something solid is under me – like when I put on the metal roof in the snow. There was…
If I won the lottery, you know what I would do?
I would travel. And I would come to see each of you, hopefully at your favorite roadside dive, and we would drink cheap beer together and just chat.
But I can’t do that.
Because as much as I’ve tried to get that damn $5 bill to sprout after planting and watering it, it just ain’t happening.
So we have to chat via comments and email and social media – which is all great, don’t get me wrong. But I’d really just love to have a beer with each of you.
Click the link below to read the rest…
There’s a full year that comes and goes between each holiday decorating season. If I were to tell you that I remember exactly where every item is supposed to be placed for Christmas each year, I’d be a liar. It’s usually not until I am looking at photos of old Christmas tours that I remember,…
While its no secret around here that I love me some cheap beer, I also won’t shake my head at other forms of libations.
I figured just as much. That’s why we are kindred spirits, friends.
Case in point – these zero effort 4th of July drinks.
I wasn’t worried about turning 30 at all, but you guys totally rocked my world and eased any sort of worries I could have ever had about turning the dirty thirty.
You are so my people.
I know what you are thinking – never once have I posted a recipe on this blog.
You know I know how to drink.
But yes, I can also cook.
And I’m not too shabby at it.
Here’s the thing though.
For the last, oh, say, three months, I’ve had no desire to cook.
My answer to “What’s for dinner?” in the last three months has been, “Ummmm….frozen chicken sandwiches?”
Said with a tired smile on my face in hopes they’ll let me get away with it.
They never do.
They want real meals.
Who can blame them?
But see, I haven’t had time to make a menu, and then the grocery list for the menu, and then go to the store and get all the items on the list.
So frozen chicken sandwiches it is.
Until a few weeks ago…
I don’t consider Rain on a Tin Roof a mommy blog. Not that there’s anything wrong with mommy blogs at all, let’s just face it, I’m not exactly your textbook mama.
One of the kid’s first words was shit – she even knew how to use it correctly.
No, that is not something I’m proud of, and yes, I have broken her from it now and watch my mouth more in front of her.
I also say things to her such as “Stop dancing on the table like a hooker.”
See. I’m not the textbook mama, and this is not a mommy blog, so I have no idea why I am stepping up on a soapbox today and writing this post. But I am.
You see, what I do know about parenting is that when I take my kid to the playground, that doesn’t mean that its free time for me.
Apparently some parents though, think that once they hit the confines of the foam cushioned walls of the mall playground, they can drop the parent title.
Oh honey. Get real.
Last week, I was invited to attend the Nashville Antique and Garden Show with StyleBlueprint, followed by a champagne reception.
I pretty much felt like a rockstar.
And then I was like, oh lawd, they have no clue that they have invited the redneck country girl. They must have gotten the invitations mixed up.
I was on my best behavior.
I swear it.
Well, I tried anyway.
I thought headphones made their exit in 1999.
I was wrong.
I vividly remember sitting in front of my aunt and uncle’s entertainment center plugging in their ginormous headphones to jam to a little Time, Love, and Tenderness before Beverly Hills 90210 came on.
That was the early 90’s.
I thought for sure headphones were replaced by ear buds as the new millennium emerged.
I mean, we did think the world would end at midnight on December 31, 1999. Surely, headphones would be replaced by a sleeker alternative.
Yes, the title was totally a reference to The Spice Girls Wannabe song.
I’m certain I could hold an entire conversation in song lyrics if it didn’t make me look like a complete dork.
Ok y’all, here’s the deal.
I want to know what you think.
I want you to let me have it – tell me what you hate, what you love, what you want to read more of, less of, tell me ANYTHING!
Seriously, don’t hold back.
Well, I don’t want to hear about that funky wart growing on your big toe, but other than that, fire away.
I’ve created a survey that I would love for you to take.
Ok, basically I’m bribing you to take it because if you take it, you will be entered to win a $50 gift card of your choice to either Target, HomeGoods, or Etsy.
Yep, all you have to do is take the survey to get a chance to win the gift card.
Its completely anonymous (with the exception of your email address so I can contact you if you are the winner of the giveaway).
These answers are going to guide some of the upcoming projects for 2015.
With that being said, you should also know that I am still me, which means I will still do some things around here, just because I want to or for the hell of it – like the stories for example.
And I’ll still be snarky – that’s just me.
And I’ll still be a freak – I think I would be rather boring if I weren’t one.
And there is even a spot for you to ask me anything.
Every time I go to pull out my nice china, I kick myself.
Because its not there.
It never was.
I have my great grandmother’s floral patterned china which is perfect for Easter, but no wedding china of my own.
That is the number one item I wish we’d registered for.
Also, I did not intentionally make it wedding week around here. It just kind of happened that way. So yes, while the legality of my marriage is in question, these are all items I wish we would have registered for. I mean did we really need that rug I was over in less than six months? No, we needed this stuff.
If you have been around here for a while, you may remember the Summer Style Soiree from last year.
We had so much fun last year, that we are doing it again this year – and its going to be bigger!
You guys are in for such a treat today! Shayna is here from The Wood Grain cottage. She is sharing some of her favorite rooms and they are uh-mazing!
Hi there! I’m Shayna from The Wood Grain Cottage and I’m so happy to be here while Jenna is spending some relaxing time away with her hubby! Lucky duck!
Today I thought I’d share a couple of my favorite rooms. My husband and I have been busy adding character and cottage/ farmhouse-y style to our newly built home one room at time. In the mean time, we’re enjoying the progress!
Our kitchen is easily one of my very favorite rooms…
I am taking vacation this week, y’all. Grunt Labor is on spring break, so I’m claiming this week as my spring break as well. I’ve lined up some fabulous gals to introduce you to this week, though.
One of my bucket list trips is to visit the north eastern seaboard one day. Jen from Migonis Home calls it home already. You guys are going to love her home….
I am Jen Migonis from Migonis Home blog and am thrilled to be posting over here while Jenna enjoys a vaca with her main man… My husband and I bought a house in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA about four years ago. We loved the location and the bones of the house but what we weren’t too wild about was how non-functional it was. There was no insulation throughout the house (big problem when you live in New England and there are an unfortunate amount of sub freezing days six months of the year) and the original windows were letting in major drafts. And that’s not even talking about the cosmetic stuff. Pop on over to see my house tour with the before photos.
Let’s start on the outside. Promise you won’t write me off after seeing how much work needs to happen out here? Please remember we are just finishing up about six months of winter. In January we put a new front porch on our house and because it’s been ridculously cold we haven’t been able to repaint except for tester areas of a new paint color. I bet our neighbors love us. 🙂
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Kleenex. You guys know how I roll though, all opinions are 100% mine. When Grunt Labor and I met, I had no idea there was anyone who needed to blow his nose so much in this world. Poor guy. (And on a side note, Grunt Labor has no idea I’m…
Friends, I am exhausted.
I feel like I have sat at this computer for the better part of last week.
And you probably hate getting daily emails from me.
So, I am going to start combining the Give Me the Good Features with the Link Party. Its easier on me and its a one-stop shop of inspiration for you.
I hope you’ll understand – I know you will.
There were great links at this past weeks party! These small changes with big impact projects caught my eye!
**Don’t forget to enter the giveaway for a FrogTape Prize Pack here!**
You know what I love?
A really great fabric. One that is full of great patterns. Or one that is simple and striped.
Here are some fun fabric projects that caught my eye at Give Me The Goods this week!
When I shared the navy and gold chests back in December, I confessed my crime.
The guest bedroom was horrendous.
And I needed an office.
A makeover was needed.
And it was needed a couple years ago.
I didn’t really have much of a clue or plan as to where I wanted to go with the room.
I knew I wanted it to be fabulous for guests.
And of course for me.
After all, it was going to be my office.
I’m not selfish at all.
