This could be it.
This could be the last fall DIY decor project.
Until next year.
I’m just itchin’ to move along to Halloween.
A good ole upcycle. A Dollar Tree pumpkins upcycle to be specific.
These were so simple to upcycle, its almost ridiculous.
Its especially ridiculous how I burned my fingertips to pieces with the hot glue gun on such a simple project.
Happens every time.
Every. Single. Time.

I found these little gems at the Dollar Tree in this state:
They had a weird seam in the middle, but I figured I could do something to cover it up.
I started off by giving them a coat of Rust-Oleum Heirloom White, with their bottoms up first, in case any paint came off when I sprayed the tops.
I love Heirloom White. In this spray painter’s opinion, it is the perfect off white.
I painted the stems metallic gold with basic acrylic paint, then took orange grosgrain ribbon and hot-glued it along that ugly seam. I put a dot of hot glue in each little vertical crevice of the pumpkin, then pushed the ribbon in.
Ridiculously simple.
Don’t you just love that arrow sign? I won it from Amber at Dimples and Pig Tales! She sells them in her Etsy shop!
What do you think about my $3 pumpkin upcycle?

Great idea to cover up that weird seam in the Dollar Tree pumpkins! I was wondering if I could even sand it off and then paint the pumpkins…but of course, I have not actually TRIED it…only thought about it. Those are really cute…you REALLY took them from tacky to classy…thanks for sharing that tutorial!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Tacky to classy!! I love it! Thank you! Ya know, I thought about sanding that seam as well, but some of the pumpkins have the seam a little more inset into the pumpkin and I didn’t know if it would work!
Michelle says
These are so cute. I wish we celebrated Halloween in Australia so I could go to town on the decorations!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thanks, Michelle! Start your own Halloween decor in Australia! They will see how fabulous you are and everyone will jump on board!

Those little pumpkins look great! Are they foam-ish or hard plastic? And yes, I love that arrow sign. It’s giving me some sign painting ideas, ha ha.
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thanks, Kristen! They are foam-ish. Isn’t that arrow sign fab? Love!
Ruth @ Living Well Spending Less says
I love the dollar store. They have such cheap decor items and with a creative mind, you can turn them into something fabulous like you did. I love how they turned out. The orange ribbon around the middle is the perfect touch. Thank you for sharing how you made these pumpkins and linking up to Thrifty Thursday.
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thank you, Ruth! They do have great decor items that can easily be upgraded! I’m always stalking our local one to see what they get in!
Megan @ Our Pinteresting Family says

Anne says
I saw some of these pumpkins in the Dollar Tree, picked them up, stewed a bit, and put them back down! I love what you did with them.
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thanks, Anne! I almost left them behind as well! So glad I didn’t now!
Michelle says
You know what else might have been cute — to make them Candy Corn colors (using the ribbon trick for the middle color).
Great idea — thanks for sharing!!!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Oh, that is a fab idea, Michelle!! That would be super cute!
Krista @ the happy housie says
Love it Jenna! I have one of those sitting in my craft room right now… waiting for a little change up to disguise that weird-o line!! Great idea!!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thanks, Krista! I can’t believe I almost passed them up now! That line almost scared me away!
Ellie says
Cute! I bought these too, except in our Dollar Tree in Canada they charged $1.25 (not fair!). I cut out a Jack-o-lantern face and used black felt to blacken the white foam and cut the stem out and put in a solar light! They’ll look really cute on the fence posts on either side of my gate. Just another idea 🙂
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
What? 1.25?! Not fair at all! I bet yours are adorable! I would have never thought of doing something like that! Genius!
Heather says
These are so chic! I too love heirloom white spray paint!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thanks, Heather! Can’t believe Dollar Tree pumpkins turned out chic!
Corinna Ashley says
I absolutely adore the ease of revamping these little dollar store pumpkins. My local store also had some that were slightly smaller but had a more realistic plastic stem. In case anyone was looking for that 😉 Ive had a blast playing around with them myself.
Ive absolutely enjoyed all of your Fall projects, cannot wait to see Halloween!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thank you, Corinna! I haven’t seen those other pumpkins! I will have to go look! I’m so glad you have enjoyed my fall projects, because I always feel I’m lacking when it comes to fall decor! Thank you!
natashalh says
