9 Simple and Easy Bed Makeovers and Hacks

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve ran across DIY headboards on Pinterest.

I’m confident DIY headboards could run Pinterest all by themselves.

Now, I’m not bashing on DIY headboards at all.

If you have patience and an insane amount of upholstery and tufting skills, then by all means make your own headboard.

However, I don’t.

I’m in favor of using what I’ve got.

This could also mean that I’m cheap. That’s cool too. I’ll own it.

I can paint a headboard faster than I can build one and cheaper too.

No, it might not look as chic as a velvet upholstered one would, but if it looks like any of these bed makeovers, I wouldn’t turn my nose up at it.

This post is sponsored by HomeRight, however all opinions are 100% mine. This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.

Simple and Easy Bed Makeovers and Hacks

Americana style, anyone?

Headboard Makeovers - Patriotic Shades, Red and Blue. Painted with the HomeRight Finish Max paint sprayer - gives a flawless finish and easy to use.

That red. Oh my. Makely Home killed it with this bold red headboard. Gail from My Repurposed Life went with a classic navy for this twin headboard makeover. Navy is always a good pick – it will never fail you. Both of them used their HomeRight Finish Max Sprayers to makeover the beds.

Shades of Green

Headboard Makeovers: Shades of Green - Awesome furniture makeovers!

I love the lines of Refresh Restyle’s headboard makeover, but I am also totally digging the bolder green hue on Jesse Coulter’s makeover.

I know. Jenna likes the green. Imagine that.

Play It Safe White

Bed Makeovers: Shades of White

Play it safe with a classic white like Finding Silver Pennies and 11 Magnolia Lane did.

When in doubt, go for polka dots.

Bed Makeovers: Easy to do polka dot bed.

I’ve never been able to resist a good (and really easy to paint!) polka dot. After I sprayed this bed with my Finish Max, I popped on a few polka dots.

And if you just have to make your own headboard…

You can use these ideas to repurpose your old bed.

Bed Hacks: Turn old headboards and footboards into benches and coat racks!

Domestically Speaking made a charming bench from an old bed and My Repurposed Life made simple coat racks. So clever! They both used their paint sprayers to get in the nooks and crannies with ease.

So are you a bed makeover or a DIY bed kinda person?

After some years of apartment hopping once the kids were grown, we have settled into a cute little 1950’s home. I have about 1000 projects lined up, and headboards for spare rooms are some of them! And bookcases. And organized closets. And end tables. LOL!

I WOULD LOVE a finish max sprayer. I have quite a few furniture pieces I could use this on!! This would make life much easier as our budget is not allowing purchasing materials to make much so I have to use what I have and so I decided to MAKE IT OVER WITH PAINT!!!! Let the SPRAYING BEGIN!!! Ha.

If my family stand still I’ll probably paint them, too. I love that you’ve written how great a HomeRight paint sprayer is. I can buy one with confidence. I’m going to get one, one way or another.

What perfect timing!! I just moved an old twin bed into a “new” guest room (the full-sized bed went with daughter to her new home)…it used to be her brother’s bed and he scratched some interesting things into the head and foot boards (drat the boy)!! After moving it, I decided I would really love to paint it…teal! Of course, I would then need to make a quilt to match it!! I was blessed to win a Homeright Finish Max sprayer, so I know what I’ll be using to paint it with!! Need to strip off the finish and sand out all the carvings!! Thank you for the inspiration!!!

Hi Jenna, I have my parents’ old 70’s entertainment center that held a honking big, heavy old school TV, stereo equipment behind a pull-down door underneath the TV, two doors on the very bottom and two ‘cubicles’ on each side for speakers and/or decor. I plan to flank each side of this piece with a pair of 70’s wood bookcase shelving units that I scored for $40 – a DIY wall unit media center with many shelves to decorate. All three pieces have Mediterranean style designs on the bottom doors, I’ll be buying some MDF or plywood. 😉 I’m not sure if I’ll paint it white or a light grey, thinking chalk paint, I’m a chalk paint virgin. I have an upholstered guestroom headboard and my bed is leather so although I like the old wood beds made into headboards I just don’t have a need right now. Thanks.
