Have I told you that my dad claims the title of “Rain on a Tin Roof Middle Tennessee Marketing Manager?”
I’m not kidding.
He even signs his emails to me that way.
And he hangs my business cards at the post office.
And tells all his friends about me.
And the people he works with.
I’m sure they loathe me by now.
One of his co-workers, Shannon, (who is forced to work right beside him – poor girl), offered me a dresser she had in her garage. Thanks, Shannon!
Seeing as I never turn down free furniture, I went and picked it up.
In my not-so-big SUV.
With my dad, the kid, and Will.
That was a
tight squeeze fun ride home.
It was well worth it though for this glamorous dresser makeover.
Isn’t that color glamorous?
Literally – that’s the name of the paint.
Before I started on the dresser, it looked like this:
I ended up stripping the top of it with my heat gun because of where the paint was already coming off on top. See that white spot? I didn’t want the paint to be uneven there, so I just stripped off the top and gave the rest of the piece a good cleaning before painting it – no priming needed!
And yes, the whole time I was painting it, I was singing the G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S song by Fergie.
You’re quite welcome for having that song stuck in your head now.
I just brushed the paint right on.
I did about four light coats of paint.
After the paint was dry, I wanted a little more depth to this piece, so I layered on Velvet Finishes Enhance Glaze.
Y’all, typically, I suck at glazes. This is one I can actually do.
You just slap it on with a paintbrush and wipe it down with a lint free cloth. If you wipe off more than you want, go back and add more, then wipe again. Just work in small sections because this stuff dries pretty quickly.
The glaze actually works as a topcoat for added protection as well.
And the after…
I kept the drawer hardware that came with the dresser and just spray painted it gold. There weren’t knobs for the doors, so I spray painted some extra ones I had laying around and put them on.
I am cra-cra about the gold with the glamorous. Its a very glamorous combination.
Have I said glamorous too much in this post?
You know you don’t wanna miss any of this crazy.
