The Bold And The Beautiful Furniture Makeovers

Yes, I did try to make that title sound like a soap opera on purpose.

    Why?

Because these furniture makeovers deserve a title that is just as dramatic as they are.

Because they are bold and beautiful.

The Bold and The Beautiful Furniture Makeovers

Add a punch of color to your headboard.

Bold and Beautiful Furniture Makeovers: Headboard Makeovers / Bed Makeovers / Painted Headboard

Of course its no surprise that I would be quite smitten with that kelly green headboard from Jesse Coulter. Adding that hispanic vibe blanket on top is giving me some serious inspiration. And then there’s the red. Red is becoming a new favorite of mine as well. Makely Home knocked it out of the park with that color choice. Both of the headboards’ nooks and crannies were no match for the HomeRight Finish Max!

    Shades of Pink & Orange

Bold and Beautiful Furniture Makeovers: Pastel Furniture Makeovers / Pink Furniture Makeovers

I have no idea how Cuckoo for Design came up with such an amazing color combination for that midcentury modern dresser makeover, but its gorgeous. And while I’m not a huge fan of “little girl pink,” it definitely pairs well with gold hardware and a pop of pattern like the night stand makeover that 11 Magnolia Lane pulled off.

When in doubt, black will never fail you.

Bold and Beautiful Furniture Makeovers: Black Furniture Makeovers / Black and Gold / Black and Leopard Print

Leopard Print Upholstery and Faux Black Bamboo. I die. This chair makeover from The Gathered Home has me drooling. Black + Gold will never fail you either. I gave this french country desk a modern, yet still classic makeover with my Finish Max paint sprayer.

    Go Aqua-licous

Bold and Beautiful Furniture Makeovers: Aqua Furniture Makeovers The Shabby Creek Cottage gave her wood cabinet not only an aqua treatment, but also turned it into a great beverage center. Delicious and DIY gave her coffee table a super fun makeover, topped off with some gold stenciling details.

    Shades of Yellow

Bold and Beautiful Furniture Makeovers: Yellow Furniture Makeovers / DIY Console Table / Mustard Furniture Makeovers

Not only do I love the yellow shade that The Hunted Interior used for her console table, but I also love the fact that she made it – I totally want my own. Pneumatic Addict used a Finish Max Pro to complete her black and yellow dresser makeover.

    Bold Pink Furniture Makeovers

Bold and Beautiful Furniture Makeovers: Bold Pink Furniture Makeovers / Dresser Makeover / Chair Makeover / Houndstooth Upholstery / Coral Dresser Makeover

A good, bright, coral pink paired with gold never gets old. The Chronicles of Home updated this dresser with the perfect amount of gold detailing. And then there’s my bright pink chair paired with a classic houndstooth upholstery. Honestly, halfway through that makeover, I was a little worried, but I love the contrast in color and pattern.

  • Glamorous Dresser Makeover

    Glamorous Dresser Makeover

Have I told you that my dad claims the title of “Rain on a Tin Roof Middle Tennessee Marketing Manager?”

    I’m not kidding.

He even signs his emails to me that way.

And he hangs my business cards at the post office.

And tells all his friends about me.

And the people he works with.

I’m sure they loathe me by now.

One of his co-workers, Shannon, (who is forced to work right beside him – poor girl), offered me a dresser she had in her garage. Thanks, Shannon!

Seeing as I never turn down free furniture, I went and picked it up.

    In my not-so-big SUV.

With my dad, the kid, and Will.

That was a tight squeeze fun ride home.

It was well worth it though for this glamorous dresser makeover.

Gorgeous rich color! And no priming required with this paint! Glamorous Dresser Makeover

Disclosure: This post was a collaboration with Velvet Finishes. All opinions and overuse of the word Glamorous are 100% mine. This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.

    Isn’t that color glamorous?

Literally – that’s the name of the paint.

Before I started on the dresser, it looked like this:

    Dresser - Before

I ended up stripping the top of it with my heat gun because of where the paint was already coming off on top. See that white spot? I didn’t want the paint to be uneven there, so I just stripped off the top and gave the rest of the piece a good cleaning before painting it – no priming needed!

As I said earlier, I used Glamorous by Velvet Finishes – a rich pink hue, one of my favorites in their paint line.

Velvet Finishes Glamorous Paint - No priming or topcoat needed with this paint!

And yes, the whole time I was painting it, I was singing the G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S song by Fergie.

You’re quite welcome for having that song stuck in your head now.

I just brushed the paint right on.

No priming required! Velvet Finishes Glamorous Paint

I did about four light coats of paint.

After the paint was dry, I wanted a little more depth to this piece, so I layered on Velvet Finishes Enhance Glaze.

Velvet Finishes Enhance Dark Glaze - also works as a topcoat protectant!

Y’all, typically, I suck at glazes. This is one I can actually do.

    How to Use Enhance Glaze

You just slap it on with a paintbrush and wipe it down with a lint free cloth. If you wipe off more than you want, go back and add more, then wipe again. Just work in small sections because this stuff dries pretty quickly.

The glaze actually works as a topcoat for added protection as well.

    Score.

    And the after…

Gorgeous rich color! And no priming required with this paint! Glamorous Dresser Makeover

    Hello Gorgeous Glamorous.

Gorgeous rich color! And no priming required with this paint! Glamorous Dresser Makeover

I kept the drawer hardware that came with the dresser and just spray painted it gold. There weren’t knobs for the doors, so I spray painted some extra ones I had laying around and put them on.

I am cra-cra about the gold with the glamorous. Its a very glamorous combination.

Have I said glamorous too much in this post?

    Never.

  • Dresser turned Stylish Buffet

    Dresser turned Stylish Buffet

    I’ve been keeping a secret.

I know, its not nice to keep secrets.

    Please forgive me.

I’ve been doing a mini-makeover on my dining room.

You may not even recognize it, since the last time you saw it was on my home tour.

It all started when I found this dresser at a yard sale for $10.

Dresser Makeover | Dresser Makeover DIY | Dresser Redo | DIY Dresser Makeover | Painted Dresser Ideas | Painted Dresser DIY

Yep, the dresser was only $10.

Dresser turned Buffet {rainonatinroof.com} #furnituremakeover #diyGrunt Labor says it was only $10 because they didn’t want to carry it back inside their house. He may be right. This thing was so heavy. And I have lifted a lot of furniture in my time.

But, when I saw the $10 dresser, I knew there was a buffet in my future. Come hell or high water.

So, I had my electrician move my chandy so I could scoot the dining room table over.

All in the name of a buffet.

And now back to the $10 dresser.

It doesn’t look bad from afar, but upon further inspection, one can see that the paint job was horrendous. They had just painted right over the handles while still attached to the drawers, therefore, causing runs in the paint and making my job harder.

But, I persevered and after I had done enough sanding to my satisfaction (which really means, I gave up), I sprayed the entire thing down with Zinnser primer in my HomeRight Finish Max Paint Sprayer.

    Dresser turned Buffet {rainonatinroof.com} #furnituremakeover #diy

Dresser turned Buffet {rainonatinroof.com} #furnituremakeover #diyWhy, yes, my garage floor is multi-colored. Its the new look, don’t you think?

Or maybe I just paint too much.

After the primer dried, I painted the base and drawers navy, once more with my paint sprayer and let it dry.

After the navy was good and dry, I took a can of Rust-Oleum Metallic Gold Spray Paint and sprayed the top edge and bottom lip of the buffet body as well as the inside trim of drawers.

    Dresser turned Buffet {rainonatinroof.com} #furnituremakeover #diy

Dresser turned Buffet {rainonatinroof.com} #furnituremakeover #diyI know, you are wondering why I went and messed up my beautiful navy paint job. Well, this was the easiest and most efficient way I could come up with to get this piece how I wanted it to look. I didn’t want to use a paint brush to paint all those nooks and crannies with the gold, but there isn’t a good metallic paint I can use in my sprayer, so I stuck with the trusty gold spray paint.

After the spray paint dried, I got back out my blue paint and touched up any places where the gold was that I didn’t want it to be.

You are thinking this took me forever.

I thought it would take forever as well.

We are both wrong. I figured out a trick.

With the navy, as long as I painted into the outer crevice of the molding, it was pretty easy and quick. This is what I mean:

Dresser turned Buffet {rainonatinroof.com} #furnituremakeover #diyYou can’t really see inside the crevice, so wrong paint colors there wasn’t an issue.

After all the navy was dried, I went back with a creamy white along the insides of the drawer fronts and all the old hardware got a coat of gold spray paint. Finally, I finished it off with a coat of Polycrylic.

Dresser turned Buffet {rainonatinroof.com} #furnituremakeover #diyHello ridiculous amounts of extra storage!

Here’s a little look at what else I’ve been doing in the dining room. The dining room wall has got a makeover since my home tour.

    Rub N Buff Hardware Restore
It won’t be my last! If you haven’t heard of Rub ‘N Buff, it is this little tube of amazingness that is like a paint / paste / cream. You can get it in various shades of gold, pewter, silver, etc.

All you do is squeeze a small portion out, I mean SMALL, a little goes a LONG way, and rub it on whatever you want to make gold, silver, etc. Let it dry, then buff. That simple.

My dresser and chest of drawers pulls in the master needed some help. I tried to polish the brass, but that did nothing. They needed a total overhaul.

Some of them were even a little rusty, so I sanded those first. And the after:

After I applied the Rub ‘n Buff, and rubbed and buffed, I did sand them a tad. The gold was a bit too “BAM” for me.
