I am so happy to be getting back in the groove of things and show you guys a project of mine.

A colorful and favorite project of mine.

A table makeover with Mod Podge and wrapping paper.

I never could have imagined that this table would end up so cute in the end.

I picked it up at a yard sale a few months back. Initially, I thought I would just do a quick flip of it. I was going to paint it a simple white and make the handle gold.

The table decided it would not be a quick flip. No, no, no. It decided it had been forgotten for far too long and needed something more.

After I had sanded it and attempted to fill the gouges and scratches with putty, the table top surface just would not become smooth.

I gave up and tossed it to the side for a couple weeks until I was at Home Goods one day and found some gorgeous green and white striped wrapping paper. I bought the paper knowing it would look great on the table.

After looking at the green in the wrapping paper, I decided the table needed some more color to go along with that pop of green. I pulled out the paint I used on my daughter’s dresser in the nursery and gave the legs and sides a couple coats of Salmon Pink by Behr. I painted the bottom shelf white. I didn’t want there to be too much of a good thing with the coral.

Next, I brought the table inside and laid the wrapping paper over the top to get an idea of what size to cut it down to.

Sorry for the terrible lighting photo, but literally, that’s all I did, lay it on the table and cut it out.

Once I cut it out, I put a coat of mod podge on the table top, laid the paper on top and gave the top a few coats of Mod Podge to protect it. I put the mod podge along the edges as well and pressed the paper under the top as I went.

I gave the handle a coat of gold spray paint.

Where did she go, you ask?

Oh, she only sold within 30 minutes of being listed.

No, I’m not kidding. I told you she was fabulous.

Yes – their wrapping paper is always gorgeous and thick – not the thin cheap stuff and its usually only about $3 – $5 a roll! A steal for its gorgeousness!

Oh you are a life saver featuring this gorgeous table re-do. It looks so pretty and in my favorite colors.
Couple of weeks ago I acquired a table very similar to yours to fix up, hopefully sell. Been going back and forth on what I’d do with it, you have rescued me. I hope mine comes half as pretty as yours. You sure have inspired me. Just have to get some more sand paper so I can clean it up correctly. Did you use chalk paint or plain old paint? The top of mine has an insert with veneer so have to make it look pretty. Just might try the paper route as you did. Happy days

I am so happy to know I gave you an idea! I just used plain old paint. I primed it first, then painted the bottom shelf white, put the coral on and then did the wrapping paper top! Easy peasy!

I’m a new DIYer- Do you useModge Podge just on the underside of the wrapping paper, to get it to adhere to the tabletop, or on the top, also, to protect the paper? last question: Could you use fabric instead of wrapping paper, if you found a cute one? what do you think?

I use Mod Podge in both places – under the paper and on top. You can use fabric, but you would need to purchase the Mod Podge that is for fabric. Hope that helps!

Hi! love this idea. Can you recommend source for a birds eye print, such as maple, but darker. It could be iron on or a contact paper. My husband insisted an end table was real wood, but it is a printed osb type instead. I would appreciate any help finding a source. Thank You, Yvonne

Hi Yvonne. Unfortunately, I don’t think I am much help here. I tend to buy all my paper products like that at Michael’s or Target. I like to use wrapping paper from Home Goods.

Hi, this looks lovely! planning to do something similar with an old table we got. Question- how do you fold the sides/ corners? Did you do it like wrapping the corners of a gift box, or did you cut slits etc.? Thanks!
