This was my first adventure with Rub ‘n Buff.

A Rub ‘n Buff hardware makeover.

Rub N Buff Hardware Restore
It won’t be my last! If you haven’t heard of Rub ‘N Buff, it is this little tube of amazingness that is like a paint / paste / cream. You can get it in various shades of gold, pewter, silver, etc.

All you do is squeeze a small portion out, I mean SMALL, a little goes a LONG way, and rub it on whatever you want to make gold, silver, etc. Let it dry, then buff. That simple.

My dresser and chest of drawers pulls in the master needed some help. I tried to polish the brass, but that did nothing. They needed a total overhaul.

Some of them were even a little rusty, so I sanded those first. And the after:

After I applied the Rub ‘n Buff, and rubbed and buffed, I did sand them a tad. The gold was a bit too “BAM” for me.

Jenna – this looks great! I’ve never heard of “Rub n’ Buff” before, but I will definitely keep in the back of my mind when I’m on the hunt for projects!

I have a buffet in my dining room that literally looks exactly like that, except the drawers are configured different and there are three cabinets. But it is shaped exactly the same and that hardward looks similar. My hardware looks horrible too, maybe I will try this.

I’ve heard about Rub ‘n Buff before, but had never thought of using it on hardware. That actually gives me a totally different idea though. I bought a pair of 1940s brass pineapple lamps. They are cute but Brasso did nothing to polish the brass and it’s looking very dingy. I bet they would come alive with some Rub ‘n Buff!

        Jenna,
Love your post and have used rub n buff on various projects and thinking about using it on some hardware that will get plenty of use.

How has it held up now that it has been about 7 months? Did you use a clear coat over it?

        Thanks for letting me know!

Hey Katie! Thanks! I love Rub ‘N Buff!! The possibilities with it are endless! I did not use a clear coat or topcoat of any kind on my hardware and it has held up wonderfully! They look just as great as they did when I first did them. Well, besides the dust that I need to take of! haha!
