I never intended to do an entire bathroom makeover when I started this a couple months ago.
It really hasn’t been that long since the last bathroom makeover.
I just wanted a bit more color.
It started with the ceiling.
I thought to myself, “Self, you should scrape off the popcorn and paint the ceiling pink.”
Self responded with a very enthusiastic, “YES.”
So I did.
But then the gray paint on the walls didn’t go with the pink very well like I thought it would.
So I painted the walls.
And then I realized the vanity had these weird yellowy patches on it.
So I painted the vanity.
And then I looked at the old shower curtain – it could be a bit more stylish.
So I made a new shower curtain and cornice.
And then I thought to myself, “Self, what about some new artwork?”
You can guess what Self said.
That non-makeover escalated quickly.
Friends, welcome to my new Preppy meets Hollywood Regency Bathroom that wasn’t supposed to be.
First off, I must tell you about the photography fiasco involved with photographing this bathroom.
Y’all, it ain’t a big space.
At all.
I went though THREE multiple hour long rounds of photographing it to get the best pictures I could and I’m still not 100% pleased with all of them, but it is what it is.
There is zero natural light in this bathroom and the hallway that is outside of it only has a tad bit of natural light coming from the other rooms in the house.
I literally took the bathroom door off its hinges to get more light.
And a big thanks to my brother who was forced to hold a white poster board and bounce light as needed when I had to use a flash.
I’m pretty sure he thinks I’m crazy now.
Anyway… you get the idea.
Like I said, I started with scraping off the popcorn ceiling and painting it pink.
And once I did that, I realized the gray wall color would not work with the pink as I thought it would, so I painted it a foolproof white.
And I painted the vanity the same white color.
But I added a splash of color under the vanity while also hiding the pipes.
I figured while I was at it, I may as well make one of those cornices I had always wanted for above the shower.
I went with a classic black and white stripe for the new shower curtains.
I made my own watercolor banana leaf prints for artwork.
And of course, it wouldn’t be one of my makeovers unless there was a quote or two somewhere in the space.
And that is the birth story of my Preppy meets Hollywood Regency Bathroom…
The makeover that wasn’t supposed to happen.
But I’m pretty stoked it did happen now.
What do you think?

I love the transformation, Jenna! All you need now is a small chandelier to replace the light….then you have a million dollar bathroom! You are so very talented.
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
I SO badly want a chandelier in there! I’m just waiting to find the perfect one (A.K.A. the perfect cheap one!). Thanks, Beth!

Your bathroom makeover is just gorgeous, You have such vision and an eye for detail. I can’t find one thing I don’t like. You are so talented, I wish I lived close to you and you could tell me what to do with our house.
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Oh Patty, you are just too sweet and giving me way too much credit! Thank you! Honestly, I didn’t have a plan for this space at all, one thing just led to another!

I LOVE the pink ceiling! It’s amazing! The “More Issues Than Vogue” quote is hilarious! It turned out wonderful! You’ve inspired me, I am totally going to paint our teeny-tiny bathroom ceiling now! 🙂
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thanks, Nicole! I’m crazy about the pink ceiling as well! And that vogue quote is one of my favorites from Carrie Bradshaw! I bet your ceiling is going to be amazing!

Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thanks, Sherri! I love all those colors – they are definitely some of my favorites! That cornice – it has a story! It was supposed to be different, but that ended in a DIY FAIL! haha! I’ll be posting about it soon!
Sarah says
Jenna – you totally slayed it on this makeover. I love every single thing about it!! And maybe mostly that it reminds me of you!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thanks, Sarah! I love the term “slayed” to describe this!
Jennifer @ Brave New Home says
Wow, you knocked this one right out of the park! Omg, I have totally been there with trying to photograph a tiny bathroom without any natural light. I’m really considering having a photographer just come out and photograph specific spaces just cause I want them to look how they do in person. Great makeover. I love the little pops of green and all the DIY projects! Looking forward to the tutorials.
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thanks, Jennifer! The thought of hiring a photographer TOTALLY crossed my mind. Honestly, If I would have had more time then I think I may have hired one, but at this point it is what it is!

Melanie @ The Painted Chandelier says
I love painted ceiling with the white detailing stripe! The Vogue quote fits the bathroom perfectly and looks great, too! Oh, and that banana leaf art is awesome! I have a couple of hard to photograph pics, as well….need to try the white posterboard/flash bouncing trick!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thanks, Melanie! I love that Vogue quote – its a Carrie Bradshaw quote from Sex and the City which is one of my favorite shows. And the banana leaf art is one of my favorite things in the room! I was thrilled with how it turned out! I’m going to be giving some out as free printables soon! The white stripe on the ceiling totally makes the pink work, I think. I’m worried it would have been too much without it!
Melanie @ The Painted Chandelier says
Sorry for all the mistakes above! I meant I love THE painted ceiling and that I have a couple of hard to photograph bathrooms! LOL That’s what happens when you’re 46 with bad eyes after 8 pm…..lol 🙂

I’ve just made your shower cornice. I saw yours when I was looking for ideas, and then realized it’s pretty much just like it except “masculine” instead of glam. I have to finish it, but I’ll show you when it’s done!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Yay, Dee!! I want to see it!
Pat says
Girl, is there anything you can’t do? Just read this as I plan to make changes in my bathroom. Loving every detail!!

Thanks, Pat!! And trust me – there’s A LOT I can’t do!!
Jonna says
Just browsing the blog and took a peek in your bathroom!
You know you’ve hit home when a room literally gives you a feeling of familiarity, Despite the fact that I’ve never been in your home or lived in the old Hollywood era.
Reminds me of the heat of summer, Palm Beach, vintage Polaroids, Lana del Rey, and that timeless glamour.
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Thank you, Jonna!! That is a huge compliment to receive!! I love ALL those things!
