What a year. A year ago, we took possession of the 70’s Landing Pad. We haven’t stopped working on it since. #tired In May of this year, we finally moved into it, but of course there were still lots of things to do. And there are still lots of things to do. While I am…

The 70’s Landing Pad Home Tour
The 70’s Landing Pad We never planned on leaving the Beloved Foreclosure. However, sometimes life has other plans you aren’t aware of. The 70’s Landing Pad needed a total overhaul when we got a hold of it. It is most definitely still a work in progress, but here’s where we are now… If you’re interested…
Summer Home Tours: The 70’s Landing Pad Home Tour, Part 2
It’s official. I’m not Superwoman. Sometime last week though, I thought I was. You see, I thought that after showing you the first part of my home tour last week, I would be able to show you the rest of the house today. This would have entailed me finishing out all the trim painting in…
Eclectic Home Tours: The 70’s Landing Pad Home Tour, Part 1
I cannot believe I actually just typed that title, y’all. We just moved into the 70’s Landing Pad about three weeks ago. By no stretch is the house completed, but the fact that I can actually share a home tour with y’all that doesn’t include a three inch thick layer of dust on the floors…
In an unexpected twist…we bought a house. Meet the 70’s Landing Pad.
You read that right. And no, its not April Fools Day or anywhere close to it.
We bought a house.
And it was completely unexpected.
If you’ve been around here for more than a minute, you know our love for our current home, The Beloved Foreclosure runs deep. We never really expected to leave it. We even put in a pool and new patio this summer, had plans to completely re-do the Circus’ room and were even considering adding on an addition – we love our house.
Now, let’s switch gears for a minute. We’ve known for the past couple of years that my in-laws wanted to move down to Chattanooga after my father-in-law retired to be closer to the Circus – well closer to us too, but let’s face it, mostly they wanted to be closer to the Circus. When we found this out, we looked at lots to build a house on that would be big enough for both our families and we also looked at existing homes that would hold us all as well. I am one of the few who loves her in-laws and would happily have them in the same house as us. We actually found one, but couldn’t work a deal out with the sellers. Finally, we all decided that our best shot would be to find them a house in our neighborhood – we love our neighborhood and if we couldn’t find a great house for all of us, then we wanted to stay in the neighborhood. The problem with that is that there are few smaller, one story homes in our neighborhood that would work for them. We found one that we thought would work, but they couldn’t even get an offer in before the house was already under contract – good houses tend to move fast in our neighborhood. We also kept our eyes open for a house for us and if we found one, then my in-laws would take our house.
We never really thought the latter would happen. We always expected to find a house for them – not us.
We were wrong.

How to Paint Baseboards
When you decide to renovate a house, you pretty much know that the renovation will include painting just about every single room.
But when you see that house the first couple of times, you are too caught up in the potential to realize just how much painting there is to do – and not just painting of walls, but also of ceilings. And baseboards. And basically all trim. And all doors. Oh and then all cabinets.
And that’s when you want to go in a corner and cry and hide and ask yourself why, why, why did we do this to ourselves???
Oh ok, that’s just me.
No it’s not. Admit it. You’ve been there or at least been in a similar situation.
Every single room, every single door, cabinet, baseboard and piece of trim have to be painted in the 70’s Landing Pad.
Now, I wasn’t too concerned about how much time it would take to paint the walls – rolling doesn’t take too long. The same was true of the doors and cabinets – I would be able to spray a good portion of those with my paint sprayer.
All the trim though – particularly all the miles and miles and miles of baseboards were causing a touch of anxiety.
But get this – in the end, it took me about 30 minutes (minus drying time) to paint all the baseboards in the living room, dining room, and hallway of the 70’s Landing Pad.

Finding the Good Stuff on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace
Lately, I’ve been stalking thrift stores, Craigslist, Close5, Facebook yard sale pages and every other second-hand selling outlet known to mankind.
Ok, let’s be honest, I’m always stalking those places. But the 70’s Landing Pad has given me a more valid excuse to stalk and buy more. Yea, so there’s that. P.S. You can see some of my new purchases here.
Anywho, there tends to be a lot of crap out there that people want to get rid of – particularly on Craigslist. Now, I’m a believer in the “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure” motto, but really I just don’t need your passenger side car door from a 1997 Nissan Altima or your used hairbrush. Yep, I saw a hairbrush for sale on the Craigslist yesterday, folks. Now, I’m sure both the Altima car door and hairbrush could be very valuable to many people. However, I’m not one of them. While I would love to have enough time everyday to just scroll through all the newly listed for sale items on places like Craigslist, Facebook yard sale pages, etc., and find that little gem among all the other crap, I don’t. What I do have time for though is to search for specific keywords that help me find what I’m looking for – or what I suddenly realized I was looking for when I find it.
How to Install Nucore Flooring
YOU GUYS.
The 70’s Landing Pad is actually starting to not look like a construction zone.
Well, it’s starting to not look like a construction zone in the living room, dining room and hallway anyway.
After getting paint on the walls week before last, we’ve been putting down the new flooring in the hallway, living and dining rooms. This flooring will also go in the kitchen, stair landing and in the downstairs foyer as well, we just haven’t gotten that far yet. I’m finally moving past the point of “Oh my word, what have we gotten ourselves into?” to “Oh my word, it actually looks like a house and it’s pretty!” We still have quite a ways to go in the overall renovation, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, y’all.
The flooring we are using for the kitchen, dining room, living room, hallway and all those other places where there’s going to be a lot of foot traffic is NuCore from Floor & Decor.

Lighting for $300 or Less: Chandeliers, Flushmounts and Sconces
There are two things I’ve wanted to tear my hair out over with the renovation of the 70’s Landing Pad – the master bathroom renovation and lighting. Oh wait, I forgot about wallpaper removal. Make that three things. And then there was the paint color selections. Hell, let’s just go on and admit that this whole reno is going to send me to the looney bin sooner than I expected.
Anyway, this post is supposed to be about lighting. To date, I have bought one single light fixture for the 70’s Landing Pad – a lucite chandelier (just like this one) from a local antique store. You guys aided in that purchase by telling me to go ahead and just buy it when we were chatting about the kitchen plans. When I went to go buy it, it was marked down and I got an extra 10% off, so it ended up being $150. Thanks for enabling me, y’all. I am madly in love with it, but can’t decide the best place to put it. Entry? Dining Room? Kitchen?
And then I started looking for lighting for the rest of the house.
And that’s when I lost my shit and preceded to find the nearest corner to go into the fetal position and cry.

The Annual Christmas Party Comeback
When Grunt Labor and I first got together, he always threw an annual Christmas party.
Y’all, I had struck gold.
Not only was he good lookin’, but he hosted a Christmas soiree each year.
#howdidigetsolucky
Now, there was one catch to this Christmas party – one could only attend if they brought a toy for a kid who might not otherwise get a Christmas gift.
I know – and he has a heart!
When you come through the door with that toy though, you are entitled to all the booze and food you can handle – or until we run out.
I was on board with this party faster than a hot knife through butter.
So that year and each year after, we hosted an annual Christmas party.
And then the Circus came.
And a circus + a Christmas party don’t always add up very well.
This year though, I really wanted to have one more Christmas party in the beloved foreclosure before we pack it up and move to the 70’s Landing Pad.
And so we did.
