Freak Show Friday: September, we’re breaking up. (And other ramblings.)

You know, September is really a tease.

At the beginning of the month, I was all like “Yes! The Circus starts back to preschool, I’ll be able to get all these projects done and hopefully find that long-lost resemblance of a life I once had!”

And then it all went to hell in a hand basket real quick.

Was it that way for y’all too? I swear September was much kinder last year.

I’m thrilled to say that September and I are breaking up. In fact, to celebrate that break-up, there will be a party at the 70’s Landing Pad this weekend.

Ok, really, it’s not to celebrate the demise of mine and September’s relationship, it’s actually to christen the new house.

Of course the party is 70’s themed. Guests get bonus shots, I mean points, for dressing in 70’s attire. My outfit inspiration is coming from Amy Adams’ character in American Hustle.

70's Party Attire

Halter Jumpsuit / Glitter Block Heels / Curling Rods

Unfortunatley, there weren’t any sequined out jumpsuits that I could rationalize spending the equivalent of a down payment for a car on for just one night. The jumpsuit I did get was only $50 and I really like it so I’m sure I’ll wear it more than once. I plan to bling up my eyes with some serious glitter and purple eyeshadow and my shoes are all sparkly too. We will be attempting the spiral curls with those curling rods. I’ll tell you what I told the lady at Target who asked me how they worked as I was purchasing them, “I have no idea. I’m going on a wing and a prayer and the advice of my hair dresser.”

The Circus requested a “Dancing Queen Super Trouper” outfit for the party. (She’s really into Mama Mia currently.) She requested this on Monday morning and the only one I could find to fit the bill wouldn’t get here on time. So I made one.
Super Trouper Dancing Queen Outfit

Every single thing is hot-glued to that sucker. She is so excited to wear it and also insisted on bright blue eyeliner to go with it. I couldn’t make this up if I tried.

I’m somehow sure the party will make it’s way into next Friday’s Freak Show Friday complete with pictures, so stay tuned.

In other news, many of you have emailed me and asked how my father-in-law is doing after his stem cell transplant. You guys are just amazing – thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers. They really do mean the world to us. He’s doing well so far. The results of his last bone marrow biopsy showed that his bone marrow is 100% the donor’s, which is a great thing! His blood tests haven’t quite caught up yet though – they seem to climb upwards and then go back down. The doctors and nurses don’t seem too concerned and say that is normal. Of course, we all still worry about it and pray that his blood results catch up soon. We just found out yesterday that a virus which he had been exposed to in the past is active in his body. Since he has basically no immune system currently, he’s having to take meds for this via infusion every 12 hours. We’re praying those meds do what they’re supposed to do.

Bill seems to be settled in at college.

We went up for parent’s weekend earlier this month and of course his room looked exactly as I expected it to look. It smells just like a locker room as well. My aunt said she was sure it didn’t look like that after I left. I told her that it indeed did. I didn’t teach him how to wash clothes for me to have to wash them for him. 😉 Obviously, she’s a better parent than I am. He did however get a trip to Wal-Mart to stock up on Little Debbies, Powerades and all those other staples of college life.

And slowly but surely, we are starting to get some cooler fall weather around here.

Thank ya Jesus.

Here’s to the end of September and hopefully the return of my sanity.

Circus and Mama

Who are we kidding? My sanity ran off into the sunset a long time ago.

Oh how I wish I was a neighbor or a friend to get invited to that shindig! Can’t wait to see pics. Congrats on getting the house to a point that you can christen it. Love the Circus’ outfit. Parlay into Halloween outfit??? Your jumpsuit will look stunning whilst holding a Miller Lite. Cheers!

This child can’t make up her mind on a halloween outfit for anything. One minute he wants to be a horse rider, the next a dancing queen, then a princess, who knows what she will actually end up being!

So glad that your father in law is doing well, Jenna! I have been through the ups and downs of bone marrow transplants with both a relative and a very close friend. Sending healing thoughts and prayers!

I only recently discovered your blog, and it is always a fun read! Things are never dull at your house for sure. Love The Circus’s costume (and BTW that is the funniest thing but so appropriate to call an active little kid). Come visit me sometime — I would love to have you.

I have twin boys in their 3rd year of college so I know how it goes…crazy! Good luck to Bill. Please post pictures of the 70s party. Can’t wait to see the dancing queens at their best.

Your party sounds like so much fun and the circus will be the shinning star in her outfit just so damn cute. I want to see lots of pictures, the good, the bad, and the oopsie’s (you though I was going to say the ugly, but yeah that to).
So glad your Father in law is hanging in there. It does take time for blood counts to come up. back when I worked the cancer floor and bone marrow transplant unit the Pts. went thru terrible graft host disease They have come a long way since I worked the unit.
Bill didn’t look homesick, I guess they are keeping him to busy and he has no time to get homesick or do his laundry, haha.
Have fun at your party, I will be thinking of ya’ll.

Thanks, Patty! I hope he’s so busy studying that that’s why his room is a mess. However, I’m somehow sure that’s not the case. haha!

The party sounds EPIC!!! Can’t wait for the pictures 😀 Please take pictures of your hair in the curlers as well as the “after” glam shot! I am trying to figure out how to do my hair for my step-daughter’s wedding the end of November in Maui. I know my hair doesn’t like to curl in the humidity (heck it doesn’t even like to curl in the arid high mountain desert I live in!), but I’m hoping for some sexy waves down my back to my shoulder blades.

Glad there is good news on your FIL’s bone marrow…keeping you all in my prayers. Sigh, Bill…I know his room never looked like that when he was home with you…room inspections by the dorm supervisor would be good just to keep the vermin at bay!

I’ll just go on and say, Susan – if your hair is anything like mine – those curlers aren’t the ones to use for the wedding. It wasn’t pretty. haha!
