Sassy Fabric Covered Message Board

Trash is most definitely a relative word.

I may or may not be the creepy lady stalking her neighbors as they take trash out to make sure they aren’t throwing something away I may want.

A similar occurrence as mentioned above may or may not have happened just last night.

And since I may or may not have a fondness for what others consider trash, I am stoked about this new series:

Trash to Treasure Series {rainonatinroof.com}

The first Friday of every month you can join myself, Thistlewood Farms, So Much Better with Age and a Guest Host for a fabulous trash to treasure project that costs $10 or less. This month, we are graced by the presence of At the Pickett Fence as our guest host.

For my trash to treasure project this month, I took a bulletin board my husband was going to toss and covered it in fabric.

But, Jenna, this is nothing new.

Fabric covered message boards are everywhere.

Well, mine is slightly different.

Look closer.

Closer.

No, not at that beautiful gold hardware I added to give it a “campaign” feel.

But, yes, go on and admire it too.

Now, look closer.

There ya go. See, it’s a sassy bulletin board.

This was simple!

First, I cut my fabric a little bigger than my board.

I wanted the definition of the frame around the bulletin board, so first, I ran hot glue around the front of the board where the cork and frame meet, then quickly pushed the fabric into that crevice.

And after that , I just hot glued the fabric along the back to secure it.

That fabulous gold hardware is just a four pack of “L” brackets that I spray painted gold and then screwed in the corners.

Oh, and those fantastic little golden animal pushpins.

They are simply spray painted plastic animals I picked up at a yard sale and then hot glued them to tacks.

Now, for the fun.

Here’s what some of my “sassy” photos say and my commentary.

Get excited.

Absolutely. I have a clear purpose.

How rude.

If you just pictured Stephanie Tanner saying that, you are my best friend.

Every time, call me. Every single time. I’m sure I will have something to say as well. And then we will both feel better about ourselves.

Everyday. Everyday, put on your awesome pants. My tend to be stretchy pants or shorts.

I beg of you. Please do this. Its really for the good of mankind.

So confusing. I mean, really, someone should pay me to just be me. Because I’m that fabulous.

I hope you enjoyed that as much as I did.

  6. Love it Jenna!! The animal push pins are so fun and cute! I have a little package of dollar store plastic animals that I was preparing to decapitate for my sons bulletin board- and probably paint in navy or green – but gold, WOW!! So kitschy fun!

    1. Thanks, Jackie! I think its pretty fun too!

  11. I love this!! I am just now getting on board with Gold. I’m loving it! I did find out that not all gold spray paints are the same. I used a 14 kt gold spray from Michaels that was Amazing. But then I got lazy because Lowes is closer and bought their metallic gold spray. If I wouldn’t have used the one I got from Michaels I wouldn’t have know a difference. Any whoo! I love the spray painted animals for push pins! SUPER CUTE! The Sassy notes are just my style! Love it!! Lesley

    1. Thanks, Lesley! Ooooo…..I have never tried this 14 ct gold spray paint from Michael’s! Do tell the brand!! I need to check it out!

      1. It’s called premium 18kt gold plate metallic paint by Krylon they didn’t have it at Lowes where I bought the Valspar brilliant gold!! Huge difference between the two the 18kt is so much more of a true shiny gold!!

        1. Awesome, Lesley!! Thank you soooo much for the info! I will be sure to get a can of that when I run out of what I have. Or before, because I probably can’t wait! Thanks!

  12. Seriously!?!? Hilarious AND adorable. I love this! It is hard to be successful and beautiful!! LOL

    1. haha! Thanks! I know, right, so hard!

  13. LOVE the sass, Miss Sassy Pants! Can’t wait to see more of this series! 🙂

    1. haha! Thanks, April! I’m so excited about this series, so much fun!

  14. I LOVE it! These are my kind of quotes and love the animals pins – so creative! Hope you saved the back ends of the animals ….. I would think they may be the appropriate pins for some items.

    1. I absolutely saved the back ends, Joann! Great minds think alike!

    1. Thanks! I love how the frame is defined too – adds a nice little touch. Those L brackets…hmmm….I think I had seen a picture somewhere on Pinterest for them a while back, I’m not sure, I just wanted a little more gold on the board!

  19. Rowan

I love this, Jenna! I’ve gotten everything from antique furniture to planting pots of all sizes to boxes of crafting supplies from my neighbors! Heck, I even pulled a handmade quilt out of a garbage can when I was running around town one day; it just needed a couple of small repairs and of course, a good laundering. Two of my boys are dumpster divers just like me. 😀

    1. I love it, Rowan!! I am the same way! My neighbor is always asking if I want something before she throws it out!

  20. This is great!!! Thanks for the smiles and laughs while reading your messages!!!~~Angela

  26. Love, love, love this board. I’m so inspired. My daughter has a cork board in her closet I’m going to do this with. I also love the pushpins. My son used to have a ton of those animals when he was younger. Unfortunately, we got rid of them years ago, but I think you can buy them at the dollar store.

    1. Yes, Dawn, you can usually find the animals at the Dollar Store! So glad you like the board!

  27. Love it and love your push pins too. How fabulous. Thanks so much for linking to Inspire Me. Hugs, Marty

I think it does say something that when I read “How Rude!” it was in my Stephanie Tanner voice. And I pictured her with her curly perm hair of seasons 1 and 2.

Then I read the next line.

We are friends for a reason.

  29. Andrea

I love the fabric choice. I’m a sucker for stripes. I also love the push pin animals, I think I might need to go hunt through my kids toy box…

    Visiting from the Happy Housie

  32. This is SO cute! My husband and I are going to be re-doing our spare room into a combined office, and this would be great in there! I even have an old bulletin board too!

    1. Thanks, Amanda! Yep – it would be perfect for an office space! I’m actually going to do another one for my soon-to-be office space!
