It has been a whirlwind summer around here, folks. Rarely has there been a dull moment, and if one did arise, we were quick to nip it in the bud. 🙂
As most summers go, it gets a little quieter around here on the blog than usual. Grunt is a teacher so he’s off during the summer and while I do still have to work during the summer, I try to work less so that I can spend time with him and the Circus more.
I have the rest of my life to work, but I only get one summer of seven with my kid. It’s not too hard to figure out which way to go with that one.
If you were wondering what we’ve been up to this summer, here’s a quick re-cap so far…
The kid discovered she loves watermelon. Her love for pineapple has also soared. We can barely keep either stocked in the house.
We made our yearly trip to one of our happy places, the Isle of Palms.
We got in a few good hammock days at the farm before our neck of the woods bypassed “hot” and went straight to “Inner Ring of Hell.”
We’ve worked on perfecting our ?cool girl? face in the truck mirrors on the way to Gaia and Pa’s. Don’t worry – they live in the same neighborhood only two streets over. That’s the only time she gets to sit up front.
While much of our cut flower garden has been a big challenge this year, the glads didn’t let us down. The flowers haven’t been as bountiful as they were last year, but we’ve had enough to leave a few small surprise arrangements on family and friends doorsteps.
The Circus started horseback riding lessons! She has impressed me so much with this y’all. She’s been wanting to do this for a couple years now, but I wanted to wait until she was older and really ready. She was a little timid at first, but she got over that real fast. That picture was from her second lesson.
She and her aunt rescued two kittens and one mama cat. You’ve never seen a child filled with more joy than when she’s holding that little black and white cat, folks.
Mama cat is now residing at the farmhouse. The Circus went out to feed her the other morning in her Minnie Mouse robe and it might have been one of the cutest things I’ve ever witnessed. And I’m not even a cat person.
We had a super fun visit to Lake Winnie and Soak Ya Waterpark a couple weeks back when they invited us to media day. The Circus didn’t think it was as neat as I did that she was riding all the same rides I did when I was a kid. ha!
They do of course have more new rides now and even a waterpark too. I forgot just how much fun it is to go there.
We all had a ball riding everything and then cooling off at the water park.
We had the best corn crop to date this year! Huge thanks to her daddy for that one!
If you’ve never read about the Circus’ sweet corn crop and what it’s for, you can do that here.
Of course, we’ve soaked in as much pool time as we possibly can.
We had another great “Mama’s Most Favorite Day of the Year” this year – A.K.A. The 4th of July.
Both the candy and the popsicles were plentiful at the parade this year.
And we’ll leave you with this – a llama constructed of balloons that went through the 4th of July parade. Talent, folks. Straight up, pure talent.
The Circus now wants one at her next birthday party. I’m quite scared of how much a balloon llama of this stature costs.

OMG I am stealing the flowers on porches idea!!! I love this so much!!
Also, my youngest has been taking horseriding lessons for almost two years and she loves it. It really is like therapy for her. She has moved up to jumping now and it is still scary as all get out for me but she is in her element. I wish that for your little girl too. 🙂

What a cutie and I can think of her younger day pictures………time is a flying Jenna!
Also, that ‘welcome’ kickplate caught my eye in the picture where Circus is dropping off flowers. Funny how this cathes one eye. Could you find out where this homeowner got this particular kickplate? I’ve already been searching on the internet and not finding the one like this homeowner has and like this more! Many thanks and carry on enjoying the summer!!

Hey girl, sorry I’m so late in responding to this! She actually made a decal using her silhouette that she then applied to the kick plate!

What a fun parade!! July 4th is also Mama’s Most Favorite Day of the Year at our house too! My son’s birthday is July 2nd and I had to be induced for his birth and my doctor asked me when I wanted to be induced and I said “as long as he’s here before July 4th because I am NOT missing the fireworks!” haha! My husband and I watched them from the top of the hospital parking ramp that year.

I saw these great little llama pinatas to make. Would be cool for bday gift filled with candy.
You know you could make that llama balloon.
You go girl.
It is so bad here. I just cannot get out of the house. And hoot summer.

My husband and I just came back from Kentucky after the fourth and wanted to buy some corn but did not see anybody selling any!! From Kentucky to Alabama!! We would love to buy some!! I think that is a great idea!! Love the cow and the corn ideas!! My kids got cows named after them but that was it!! Circus is lucky to have you as parents! Enjoy the rest of the hot summer!!
