I just love and adore your website. Your whole entire house is my inspiration for my growing family. It’s hard to tame a man that loves hunting and fishing and bringing him to a level where we can’t have snake skin and deer heads hanging in every spot of our home. The DIY work you have done is definitely a must read for all. Great job and your stories make me laugh. I look forward to your updates!
I don’t have a website, it’s my brain for now! LOL!!
Jordan, you have no idea how much I LIVE for comments like this!! Thank you!! You totally just gave me an ego boost – haha! Maybe you could morph that snake skin into some upholstery for an ottoman?? haha! He may like that – he may feel pretty manly resting his feet on an ottoman covered in snakeskin of a snake he killed. haha!
I recently saw your kitchen makeover in Better Homes and Garden and love it. It is exactly what I have been wanting to do to my kitchen. I have never done painted any furniture or cabinets before aside from a silver metal table I spray painted bronze. Can you please give me detailed info on how to turn my ugly brown cabinets into beautiful white ones like yours?
Hi Edi! Thanks so much for stopping by after seeing my kitchen in Better Homes and Gardens. I painted the cabinets before I started the blog, so I don’t have a great tutorial to point you to, but I can tell you what I did. When I painted them, it was before I knew a lot about painting furniture or pieces like the cabinets, so I used Rust-Oleums Cabinet Transformations kit. Everything I needed was in the box – a deglosser so you didn’t have to sand or prime, the paint, and the top coat. The directions walk you through it step by step. I did run out of paint and had to buy a second kit. Now, if I had it to do over again today, I would pull them off, use a liquid sander / deglosser on them (you can find that at a home improvement store) and then use my Finish Max Pro paint sprayer to paint them. It would have given a better finish than what I have now. You can’t tell in photos, but you can see brush strokes on the cabinets up close from painting them. I would have just used a good quality paint in a semi-gloss that would hold up well to being scrubbed down. I would have also used a polycrylic top coat for extra protection. I hope that helps!
OMG, I had to hide Bubblegum flavored amoxicillin from my son when he was little to keep him from drinking the whole bottle. He LOVED that stuff. I swear I think he fibbed about an earache a few times just to get some. He’s 37 and when he was a child, doctors actually called in prescriptions and insurance companies actually paid for them. Those were the days!
