I never cook on Sundays.
I know that being a southern woman I am supposed to cook a big meal every Sunday afternoon and have everybody and their mama over for dinner, but I don’t. I’m sure that some of the great southern women who have went before me are very disappointed in this. They would probably be upset that I’ve only cooked fried chicken twice in my life as well, but I guess that’s why I often call myself the ex-southern belle.
Needless to say when my friend Brittany and I decided to whip up some burgers a few Sunday afternoons back, I’m sure those women before me nearly came back to life because of the shock that surged through their bodies.
Then however, they probably saw it was a Blue Apron meal and realized I hadn’t changed really at all.
Because Blue Apron meals are the easiest meals to cook. It still counts as cooking, but it’s like 10 times easier than regular cooking…
They deliver all the ingredients you need to your home in the exact measurements as well. Everything you need to cook a meal – down to the one teaspoon of vinegar and the recipe for the whole meal – comes right to your doorstep. Everything comes in a refrigerated box so even if you aren’t home right when it’s delivered, it will stay cool and fresh till you get there. It’s like your own personal chef in a box.
For our girl’s only afternoon in, we made cheddar cheeseburgers with pickles and thyme roasted oven fries. Because really, what kid doesn’t like cheeseburgers? You can see all the different recipes Blue Apron has to offer here. You can get two-person or family meals. We always opt for the family size meals of course.
P.S. Excuse my kitchen walls – the backsplash is coming soon! There’s only so many things a girl can get done!
The Circus tasked herself with the job of peeling the onion. This was probably her first and last time she’ll do that for a while. I don’t think she knew what she was getting herself into.
Britt worked on the fries while I got the soak for the pickles ready.
And Harper just preferred to hold the cucumber. 🙂
The entire meal was delicious, but the pickles turned out to be one of my favorite things.
All you did was make a quick mixture on the stovetop, then put the cucumbers in the mixture to soak. I ended up eating the pickles by themselves and I never do that.
The Circus took over pickle duty while Harper gave pointers.
I cooked the burgers on the stovetop, which is another thing I usually don’t do.
I usually put them on the grill, but I had also gotten a new pan from Blue Apron’s new market and wanted to try it. Let me just say, it’s my new favorite pan. I was worried about burning the burgers, but the pan was great. They were perfectly cooked and juicy. The pan is non-stick and really easy to clean. I had also made the mixture for the pickles in it and just wiped it clean before using it for the burgers. It heats up evenly, so there were no burgers that were cooked more or less than others when I went to flip them.
Mamas and kiddos alike ate it all up.
Have you tried Blue Apron before? For all us people with commitment issues, you don’t have to worry – you can skip or cancel the service at any time.

I’ve heard of Blue Apron, but haven’t used it yet. My friends rave about it.
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Oh girl. They are raving for good reason! It’s awesome!
Laura @ Make Life Lovely says
What an amazing service!! I’ll definitely have to check it out. Love that everything comes already measured for you!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
It is, Laura! Having everything measured is super handy – I usually spend a good portion of time getting out a ton of different measuring cups and spoons when I’m cooking! haha!
Lazy Budget Chef says
That looks so convenient for those busy times when you have just enough time to cook but can’t think of a recipe with the ingredients you have on hand.
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
You are so right! It is extremely convenient then for sure!
Sarah says
Those pickles sound amazing! And I love the idea of meals that are mostly ready to go – but are still fresh!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
Oh my goodness, Sarah, they SO were! I could have eaten all of them by myself.
Patty says
Jenna, I know first hand just how good Blue Apron meals are, I tried them out, but because of our life style it just didn’t work out. My husband is only home on week ends and when the weather is good we ride all week end and eat on the road, so no cooking. Through the week I diet and fix very little for myself.
If I had a normal life I would definitely still use Blue Apron, the food is out standing and they really do make it easy.
I found that I was spending less at the grocery store and there was no waste.
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
I totally understand, Patty! It’s not for everyone’s lifestyle, but dang it is good!!
Amy Latta says
YUM! Looks like a fun {and delicious} time!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
It was, Amy!

I’m going to try this! Thanks so much for the write-up, Jenna, the food looks amazing. I glanced at some of the recipes they offer and they really look delish….plus there’s something for everyone’s taste. Circus and Harper are cute as buttons!
Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof says
They are pretty darn cute. I’m slightly partial though, of course. Yes, I love all of Blue Apron’s different choices. I’ve also been pleasantly surprised with things I thought I wouldn’t like but really did.
