Yes, you read that title right – it is a brand spanking new Freak Show Friday!
This series kind of went on hiatus during the summer so I could spend more time with the Circus, but she started back to preschool this week, so Freak Show Friday is back! I won’t guarantee one every Friday, but I’ll do my best to have at least two a month.
As you know, we have been working at the farmhouse and on the farm quite a bit this past summer. Grunt Labor, who no one would have ever pegged as a future farmer, now dons his Carhartt overalls and work boots more than his Polos.
Trust me, no one is more shocked than me. This guy was city through and through when I met him. He’s still city, but now he’s also all about cornfields.
And cows.
And country music.
New country music.
Let me just say, I like some new country music. Eric Church, Miranda Lambert and I can burn through a six-pack in no time, but my heart will always belong with the country of the 80’s and 90’s. Needless to say, I’m not sure how I feel about Grunt’s newfound love of new country music.
He is also trying to use his newly learned farming skills in the city…
I have to say though, it’d only take one time for a little city kid to try and climb that fence and he certainly wouldn’t attempt it again.
I ran into a thrift store back home without Grunt one day. I made sure to tell him what he’d missed though…
Sure enough. Right there in the store.
Within the past few months, some family friends have moved into one of the houses on the farm. Of course, we were using the deep freeze for storage.
Did you know that if you freeze a cowhide right after it’s taken off that it’ll keep until you have time to tan it? We didn’t know that either, but by God, we’re trying it.
I lived in my hometown for 25 years and never once was I able to sum it up better than Grunt Labor did one Sunday morning driving through…
Truer words were never spoken.

I have a playlist on Apple music titled 90s Country.
And that is the only extra piece of evidence that you need to know we were separated at birth.

Twinsies. haha!

Loved this post! I long for a little slice of country! We live on forest acreage, but unfortunately it’s not “farming” acreage. One day we will find a place to farm!
I think the cow hide should keep. Just the sooner it gets tanned the better. We freeze deer hide sometimes to keep it in good shape before bringing it to the taxidermist. Look forward to seeing the tanned/finished results…?
Jenna says
Good to know! I’m hoping we can get to it within the next month or so!

Glad you are back on a Friday! You should make artwork out of that last picture. So funny.
I don’t know what you mean about freezing cowhide but then I’m only a little bit country!
Jenna says
hahaha!!! We’re going to attempt to tan the cowhide to make it into a rug. We couldn’t do it right when we got it back from the slaughterhouse, so we froze it until we can do it. We’ll see how that turns out….

I’m with you and liking the older country of the 80s but with a little of the new stuff thrown in! I’m the one in church on Sunday morning and hubby is out doing farming chores. Can’t wait to see pictures of all you accomplished on the farm this summer (and I need to see if I missed any posts!!).

A good mix of old and new is good – just not some of the really different stuff! haha

I am laughing so hard right now on all those sayings. To true.
We are still okay down here. I am heading to work but think it will be slow and boring.
Jenna says
Glad you’re ok, Stephanie! The storm hit us last night, but of course not nearly as bad as Florida had it.
Brigitte says
Ha! I love it!
