At the beginning of every summer for the past few years, at my command, the Circus, Grunt and I sit down and make a summer bucket list. Since Grunt is a teacher, he doesn’t have to work during the summer, with the exception of a few ball camps. Of course, the Circus has the summer off, but me, well I still have to work. The bucket list is my way of making sure that the summer counts for something. That the Circus got to do lots of fun things that creates lots of memories she’ll always cherish.
We didn’t cross everything off on the bucket list for this summer. In fact, I don’t know that we crossed half the things off.
While I did take more time off from work this summer, life still happened. Things get busy and before you know it, August is knocking at your door.
This isn’t the first time we haven’t marked everything off the summer bucket list. It won’t be the last time either I’m sure. I beat myself up over this fact. I tell myself you should have done this, you could have put something else off for after the summer, you just didn’t do enough, yada, yada, yada.
And as I was giving myself the yearly beating-myself-up-over-the fact-that-summer-is-gone-and-we-did-nothing-speech, I went through the pictures on my phone and as it turns out, we did do a lot this summer – it just wasn’t all on the bucket list.
And some of the things we did were better than things on the bucket list.

We got in an ample amount of pool time and the Circus jacked her Dad’s Mountain Dew on more than one occasion. There’s a similar little girl’s giraffe swimsuit here.
We swung our hearts out.
We did the 4th of July parade in my hometown where parents and kids alike dive for candy and you also see things that you would only see in my hometown. 😉
We made our summer visit to the Isle of Palms with Gaia and Pa, where we tried coconut juice straight from the coconut and decided it wasn’t our cup of tea.
We sold out of sweet corn!
We found the perfect pair of training skates that we’d been looking for at a thrift store for only $2.
Testing was conducted in our horse pajamas, of course…
These pajamas fit her perfectly, don’t you think?
We made a lemonade stand and sold out of lemonade at our first sale!
We went to New York to see Uncle Brandon (the Man of Questionable Honor) and Aunt Caitlin! Unfortunately, we didn’t keep our “no sleep till” promise because our plane got delayed for hours.
We visited the Bronx Zoo, Central Park, the Museum of Natural History, the Westchester Beach Club and Playland where the Circus was all for the super-soaker wet ride until she was soaked.
And of course, we had to catch raindrops on our tongues in Times Square – in our KISS t-shirt. 😉
We spent lots of time at the farm, where we also celebrated Grunt’s birthday.
And just for good measure, we threw in a little yoga with cousin Elle.
It was actually a pretty great summer.
Here’s to all the parents out there who never think you’re enough. I think if you’re worried about it, then you’re probably already enough. And have been for a while.
Cheers to a great summer and cheers to the kids going back to school. 😉
