I am notorious for starting a project off strong, getting 90% finished, and then……I’m at a standstill.
Still there.
And still nothing.
All that little stuff at the end, while it’s usually relatively easy and often fun (hello, accessories!), I always put it off. Always. Thus, why you have yet to see a dedicated post on the full kitchen makeover, or the living room or the dining room and a few more spaces. You’ve seen the rooms, but there are lots of little things that still need to be finished up, purchased, etc.
It’s that last little bit. Side note: I actually do have curtains in here now! Yay me!
So this year, I decided to give myself deadlines.
I cannot stand to miss a deadline.
When I was working as a teacher, anytime something was due, I was either one of the first to turn it in on or before the due date. Perhaps, that makes me a nerd.
To finish all the little things in the dining room, living room, kitchen, and to also fully complete a room makeover by my self-imposed deadlines, I made a Printable Project Planner for Room Makeovers.
It outlines my general ideas, tasks that need to be done in the space, things that need to be bought, the budget breakdown, room measurements and a section for random things to make note of.
It’s nothing fancy, y’all, but since I’ve filled one of these out for the kitchen, I’ve already marked a couple of things off that list you see up there. Yay me again! Since it’s just one sheet, it’s also easy to just grab and take with me to the home improvement store or other shops to pick up things on the list.
I thought some of you might find this helpful as well, so you can grab the file in my Free Printables Library.
To get access to the Printables Library, you just need to be a subscriber to the Freak Show that is Rain on a Tin Roof. 😉 If you aren’t already a subscriber, click the image below to get signed up. If you are already a subscriber, just look at the bottom of the last email you got from me and it will have directions on how to access the Free Printables Library!
According to my Kitchen Project Plan, I’ve got to have that space completed by the end of February – hold me accountable y’all!
Hope you guys find this helpful as well!

Advice on painting kitchen cabinets? They are classic 1980’s oak.
Jenna says
Hi Carol! I’ve painted kitchen cabinets three times and each time I’ve used something different. I’ve used a Rust Oleum Cabinet transformations kit, Velvet Finishes paint and most recently Benjamin Moore Advanced paint. I don’t have a tutorial for the Rust Oleum kit and I don’t have one yet for the Ben Moore paint either, but there is one here about using the Velvet Finishes: https://rainonatinroof.com/2015/08/modern-kitchen-makeover/
